University News and Magazines

The Department of University News and Magazines handles contacts and relations with external media, as well as with University print and electronic media, on behalf of the University administration and all schools, departments, and centers not covered by the health sciences or sports information news bureaus. The department produces Pitt Magazine, the University’s flagship publication; Pitt Med, the magazine of Pitt’s School of Medicine; Pitt Chronicle, the weekly University newspaper; Researchreview, the triannual compilation of Pitt research news stories; and the weekly e-mail report of notable Pitt news appearances, Pitt in the News.

The department works with faculty, staff, and administrators in planning and implementing programs to inform various external and internal audiences of news about and events taking place at the University.

The department provides media liaison and responses to media inquiries; preparation and distribution of print and electronic news releases; planning and scheduling of news briefings and conferences; arrangements for interviews and media tours; and writing, editing, and placing bylined articles, feature stories, and opinion pieces.

For media inquiries about Pitt’s Schools of the Health Sciences or the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, contact the Health Sciences News Bureau at 412-624-2607. For questions about Pitt athletics, call the athletics media relations office at 412-648-8240.
