About the Office

Who answers questions from the news media about the University of Pittsburgh? That’s the Office of Public Affairs.
Who designs, edits, and delivers some of the highest quality university and college publications in the nation, as recognized by the industry’s leading experts? That’s Public Affairs, too.
Who crafts advertising programs for print, broadcast, and the Web that deliver Pitt’s powerful success stories to diverse audiences? Public Affairs again.
Defining, Delivering Messages
Every day, the Office of Public Affairs helps the University define and deliver its messages to a variety of audiences—students, faculty, staff, alumni, community and government leaders, and the public at large.
That means working with the news media to announce new developments at the University—and explaining and exploring how Pitt is making advances in education, research, and community development.
That means creating printed materials and Web sites that highlight the people and programs that the University has to offer while conveying the information that Pitt’s constituents need to know.
And that means targeting the University’s marketing efforts to produce the most effective results possible in student and faculty recruitment, fundraising, and community and government relations.
Reports to Chancellor
The Office of Public Affairs reports directly to Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg and is directed by a member of his senior staff, Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Robert Hill. The office includes the departments of Executive Communications; News and Publications; National Media Relations; and University Marketing Communications.
Together, the professional staffs of these departments work with individual University clients to determine their advancement and marketing needs and to devise appropriate strategies and programs that meet those needs.
These award-winning programs integrate market research, media relations, publications, video and audio, internal University communications, Web sites, advertising, and specially designed events.
